“The 1st National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award” Winners Announcement

To honor the domestic enterprises which have great achievements in promoting environmental protection, Environmental Protection Administration made a public appraisal for the enterprise environmental protection awards for 28 consecutive years. This year, the award has been largely adjusted and renamed “National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award.” Today (November 8) the award ceremony was held at Auditorium, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, and Minister of EPA, Chang Tzi-chin, gave the awards in person to the enterprises with excellent performance. This year, there are 38 winning enterprises, including 3 Titan Awards, 7 Golden Awards, 12 Silver Awards, and 16 Bronze Awards, and there are also 18 other enterprises winning Nomination Awards.

The participating enterprises passed the initial review, second review, and final review. According to EPA’s statistics of the 67 enterprises’ achievements in environmental protection, in terms of environmental management, there are 64 enterprises promoting green supply chain or green marketing, 50 publishing the enterprise social responsibility reports, and 21 securing green building marks. In terms of energy conservation, they have saved 200 million kWh of electricity and 14.79 million tons of water, reduced 3.6 million tons of carbon (equivalent to yearly carbon uptake of 9,260 Daan Park), and recycled up to more than 0.36 million tons of rain water. In terms of the coordination with the environmental protection policies, they have reached 3.76 billion dollars of green procurement and taken charge of the maintenance of 34 public toilets and 29 km of coastline. There are also 31,087 persons participating in the beach cleaning activities.

EPA points out that this year there are 3 enterprises winning Titan Awards in the benchmark group, including First Bank, Bali Refuse Incineration Plant, which commissions Onyx Ta-Ho Environmental Service Co., Ltd. for operation and management, and Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau, MOST (Tainan Science Park Resource Recycling Center). After winning the honorary environmental protection enterprise awards for three consecutive years, they joins the public appraisal again and still wins recognition from the commission members with the great achievements in environmental protection. Among them, First Bank promotes green finance and engages in the environmental education of green finance by making Wanhua Branch the educational base of green finance. Bali Refuse Incineration Plant, which commissions Onyx Ta-Ho Environmental Service Co., Ltd. for operation and management, makes use of green energy and recycles and reuses bottom ash to make retaining bricks, permeable bricks, or road base materials. Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau, MOST (Tainan Science Park Resource Recycling Center) builds the smart system to property dispose of waste and implements pollution prevention and reduction. Besides, Tainan Branch of ChipMOS Technologies Inc., Fab 3 of Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation, Yong Kang Waste Recycling (Incineration) Plant, which commissions Onyx Ta-Ho Environmental Service Co., Ltd. for operation and management, have won Silver Awards or above for three consecutive years and been given the honorary environmental enterprise awards.

Center for Sustainability, Nanhua University, which joins the public appraisal for the first time this year and wins Golden Award, has been actively promoting low-carbon campus and listed in the one hundred green universities in the world for three consecutive years. Chungli plant of Delta Electronics Inc., which wins Silver Award, has been actively promoting green supply chain, forming the inspection and counseling team for the environment-related substances in the products, asking the suppliers to meet the green requirement, and using the projectors and lighting products with green marks and energy labels. They are the excellent enterprises with the characteristic of environmental protection and worth our recognition.

At the moment of glory, EPA expresses the special gratitude to every enterprise for the support and devotion to environmental protection. The advances of the country not only depend on the government’s hard work but also take the enterprises and citizens’ cooperation and participation. It is expected that the winning enterprises’ excellent performance in environmental protection will encourage other enterprises to model after the winners and become the energy for further advances and mutual benefits.
