To show recognition to the private sectors’ support and endeavor for green procurement, EPA held “2019 Green Procurement and Green Consumption Promotion Outstanding Sectors Award Ceremony” today (October 1). Deputy Minister, Shen Chih-hsiu, gave the awards personally to commend the 116 private sectors which implemented and reported over NT$30 million of green procurement last year (2018). The oath ceremony of the green procurement goal “Green Manifesto” also took place. EPA and the private sectors made promises together that the sum of green procurement in 2021 will be more than that in 2018 by 5%. The corporate promotion will be strengthened to continue to create the environmental efficacy.

To enhance the atmosphere of green consumption in Taiwan, in the past years EPA has promoted several policies. From 2007, the private sectors were encouraged to implement and report green procurement. After years of endeavor, the sum of green procurement reached NT$29.7 billion in 2018. There were 2,093 private sectors reporting in total, which reached a new high in years. Most of the reporting sectors are in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, paper manufacturing industry, textile industry, finance industry, and telecommunications industry.

According to EPA, there were 116 sectors in total receiving the awards. Based on the reporting sum, the top three are “Far Eastern New Century Corporation,” “Chung Hwa Pulp Corporation, Jiutang Plant,” and “Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited, twelve plant, fourth/fifth stages.” It is not easy for them to have been active in choosing the green raw materials and green office supplies to put into practice the concept of green procurement for years.

In response to goal 12 “Sustainable consumption and production” of the UN’s “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” EPA specially held the oath ceremony of the green procurement goal “Green Manifesto” with the award ceremony. EPA and the private sectors made promises together that the sum of green procurement in 2021 will be more than that in 2018 by 5%. It is expected to completely implement the procurement supply chain of the private sectors to realize the UN’s goal of sustainable development.

In recent years, the unremitting endeavor of different industries not only increases the business opportunities of the green products in our country, complete the green supply chain, and raise the citizens’ identification with green consumption but also enhances our country’s green competitiveness worldwide. It is expected to benefit the green economic circulation of our country in the future and create a better green homeland for the next generation.
