Great Achievements in Green Procurement: EPA Awards Private Organizations for Excellent Performance

To award the public support and endeavor for green procurement, Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) host “2018 Prize-Awarding Ceremony for the Excellent Performance in Green Procurement and Green Consumption Promotion” today (Sep. 18). Secretary General Cai Hong-De awarded the prizes in person to honor the 88 private corporations and groups, which conducted green procurement and declared over 30 million NTD (hereinafter inclusive) last year (2017), to show gratitude to them for their responding to the green consumption concept of our administration. It is hoped that through the public ceremony we will attract more private corporations and groups to conduct green procurement and declare the annual amount together and create the environmental benefit.

To upgrade the atmosphere of green consumption in our country, in the past years EPA has taken several measures. Since 1992, we have promoted the system of “Green Mark.” Since 2009, we have promoted the labeling system of carbon footprint on the products. Up to date, there have been approximately 4,700 products with effective green marks, 427 products with carbon footprint labels, and 15 Carbon Footprint Reduction Label products.

To promote the products with green marks, EPA has taken the lead to purchase the eco-friendly products since 2002. In 2017, the amount of green procurement in the government units has reached 9.1 billion. Since 2007, we have further promoted the green procurement project conducted by the private corporations and groups. In 2017, the green procurement amount of the private corporations and groups is about 23.9 billion. In 2017, the overall green procurement amount is up to 77.5 billion and sets a new high of the past years. Such great achievement manifests the private organizations’ recognition of green consumption and support for green procurement. It is hoped that through the collaboration of the government and the private corporations and groups, we can increase the involvement in green consumption of our country and prosper the green life circle of the public.

In recent years, through the endless endeavor of the government and private corporations, we have raised not only the green competiveness of our country in the world but also the citizens’ recognition of green consumption. It is expected that in the future the power of environmental protection will be gradually leveled up to create the green life of better quality for the next generation.
