Taiwan’s accomplishment in recycling is well recognized around the globe. On November 22nd, Minister Lee Ying-yuan of the Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) specifically awarded the enterprises that passed the evaluation of recycling waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and scrap vehicles. This is to recognize these outstanding companies in the venous industry.
On the morning of November 22nd, 2017, the presentation of the evaluation results on recycling assigned materials (WEEE and scrap vehicles) and the related technology interchange conference were held at Daxin building at Chinese Culture University. At the beginning of the conference, Minister Lee awarded 5 enterprises, including E&E Recycling. Then, the new and leading technology in the recycling field was shared by representatives from the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and domestic agents. Professionals, scholars, and dealers interchanged information and shared experiences to enhance the current recycling technology and efficiency. Thus, the expected benefits of achieving both economic development and environmental protection can be achieved.

The EPA explained, this year, the evaluation on recycling assigned materials took WEEE and scrap vehicles as the representing materials. Through experts and scholars conducting on-site surveys to the recycling sites listed for evaluation, enterprises that met the standards of the evaluation were awarded this year. These standards include the recycling technology used, the production quality of using recycled materials, industrial safety, and pollution prevention.

The EPA stated that the recycling industry is gradually becoming more systematic and institutionalized and has become one of the most important roles in the whole recycling system. The recycling industry is also the essential foundation for our country to move toward a circular economy. In order to promote the stable and continuous development of the recycling industry in our country, the EPA has implemented the “rolling” management strategy.

The “rolling” management strategy implies that aside from making necessary amendments in various laws and regulations, the EPA, along with the cooperation and assistance provided by the Environmental Protection Bureaus, will establish a comprehensive waste managing network. In addition, the EPA has contributed to the innovative research and development of recycling technology by funding various experts from the industry, the academia, and the research field. The encouragement of developing new ideas and concepts can drive the transformation of the recycling industry. Thus, the recycling technology in our country can be well advanced.

Lastly, the EPA showed its appreciation to the support and effort which the recycling industry has provided in protecting our environment. The EPA hopes to actively create a new economic development pattern, which is a circular economy, and establish a new environmental protection paradigm in Asia.
